Abstract

This paper describes the development of the spider chart developed by the Eastman Kodak Company. The spider chart, a powerful graphical tool for evaluating employee performance and competence.

A Statistical Engineering group used the spider chart to map the level of success in job performance categories. The critical success factors included education and experience, computer & modeling skills, project accomplishments, team skills & feedback, product knowledge, statistical skills, professional activity, and presentation skills.

The spider chart proved to be an excellent Human Resource tool. It helped the engineering group analyze job descriptions more effectively, and it facilitated the group in reaching a consensus.
