Abstract
Six Sigma methodology represents an evolutionary development combining the best elements from many earlier quality initiatives. Although some of its tools are new, the real strength of Six Sigma lies in its ability to combine all these elements with a disciplined approach and proven business success. A look at past innovations, from Eli Whitney and Henry Ford to Motorola and Six Sigma, provides practitioners with the insight needed to launch successful projects or initiatives while avoiding the mistakes of the past.
