Abstract
Hoerl and Snee (2010) have proposed to formalize a disciplinecalled statistical engineering to fill the gap between statistical thinking andstatistical tools. This article describes the existing Shainin defined statisticalengineering discipline and evaluates its effectiveness based on the standardsproposed by Snee and Hoerl. The methods are illustrated with an investigationof a performance problem in a complex electromechanical system.
