Abstract

[PowerPoint presentation slides only]

Increasingly, adherence to standards has become a part of doing business, especially internationally. The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is a federally-funded research and development center established at Carnegie Mellon in 1984 to provide leadership in advancing the state of the practice of software engineering to improve the quality of systems that depend on software. There are a number of standards in use that relate to software quality. These include ISO 9000-3, a guide the application of ISO 9001 to software; SEI's Software CMM; the IEEE Software standards; and the ISO/IEC software process standards. Additionally, the software engineering body of knowledge (SWEBOK) provides a consensually-validated characterization of the bounds of the software engineering discipline.
