Abstract

Various improvement concepts encourage the use of simple tools as steppingstones in the continuous improvement process. A methodology for setting up a Six Sigma quality specification is propose that, unlike other process control methods, can help directly compare the process mean and standard deviation with their respective specification values. The process mean is compared with a new concept called target range that helps determine whether the shift in the process mean is within the target range and the process standard deviation matches that needed for Six Sigma quality.
