Abstract
[This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.]Inspection has been shown to be the most valuable means of detecting and preventing software defects. An analysis of various projects in service- and product-based software companies demonstrates the effectiveness of inspection activity. A process metric-depth of inspection (DI) and a people metric-inspection performance metric (IPM) are introduced to quantify the effectiveness of the inspection process and the people enabling the process. These metrics will enable stakeholders to have a part in the process and justify the costs of development.
