Abstract
In a short essay honoring George Box, the author tells of his personal experiences which began when he was one of Box’s graduate students in 1953. Box returned to England to work at Imperial Chemical Industries before returning to Princeton to head up the Statistical Techniques Research Group and join the author as a lecturer. Box later established the Department of Statistics at the University of Wisconsin and was instrumental in launching the journal Technometrics. The author notes that Box’s contributions to statistics are too numerous and impressive to describe, even briefly.
