Abstract

Creation and implementation of a Daily Management System (DMS) is an effective method for a successful business turnaround. A DMS, which is based on the Toyota Production System (TPS), builds on the TPS principles of understanding the strategies that promote quality and implementing those strategies. Elements of a good DMS include: leader standard work, in which key activities essential to daily operations are identified; visual controls, which establish quick identifiers to track leader standard work, and accountability surrounding ownership of the first two elements using key performance indicators as a metric. Implementation of a DMS has been shown to be effective quality management tool both in times of business prosperity and in times of business turnaround.
