Abstract

The first in a series of three articles, this report offers insights and lessons learned about how two healthcare systems used long-standing quality tools and principles to guide their successful COVID-19 vaccine administration.  Both Munson Healthcare in Michigan and Sentara Healthcare in Virginia found focus for their efforts around Deming’s principle of constancy of purpose and approached their work with an eye toward ongoing continuous improvements. The techniques applied by both organizations allowed them to masterfully face the extraordinary challenges ushered in by the pandemic, setting the standard for other organizations to learn from and follow.
