Abstract

Changeover downtime can be a significant cost to manufacturing operations. Streamlining the process to reduce waste of time and material by using a method of sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain, and a method of single-minute exchange of die can increase productivity and decrease downtime. With steps as simple as organizing tools and equipment, downtime can be reduced and organizations can make more money by having the machines running for longer periods of time. In addition to having a machine in operation for longer stretches, an organization can take on more orders to take advantage of longer running times.
