Abstract
This monograph is a publication of the Healthcare Technical Committee, a joint development of ASQ’s Healthcare and Quality Management Divisions.
This sequel to “A Hospital-Based Healthcare Quality Management System” describes how self-assessment can be used to facilitate continual improvement and innovation. It demonstrates the value of self-assessment and provides an approach that takes the organization’s maturity related to its use of healthcare QMS into account. Six progressive stages are used to evaluate the strengths and opportunities that the organization needs to address as strategic priorities for improving patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction, as well as cost savings, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Worksheets are included for each of those stages along with process maps that clarify how the self-assessment process differs as the organization’s journey moves forward.
