Abstract
The 8D problem solving method is a scientific, systematic approach which has similarities to the DMAIC method. The overlap in the two methods is briefly discussed in this overview of the 8D approach. 8D is usually driven by the customer; as the process is meant to resolve a specific customer complaint. Successful implementation of 8D methodology requires an investment of time, resources, and buy-in from both management and the process improvement team.
