Abstract
[This abstract is based on the authors' abstract.] An exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart may be designed to detect either small or large shifts in the mean sequence of independent observations, but it cannot easily detect these shifts simultaneously. An adaptive EWMA chart is proposed that weights the past observations of the monitored process using an appropriate function of the current error. The proposed chart offers better protection against shifts of different sizes.
