Abstract

Healthcare organizations can achieve organizational and business success by aligning their operations with quality management systems (QMS). There are many tools from which organizations can chose. The model the healthcare sector is most familiar with is the ISO IWA 1, which was developed to help healthcare organizations align their quality management systems with the ISO 9004:2000 structure. The ISO Auditing Practices Group's Sidney Model illustrates that effectiveness and improvement can be represented as a cyclical process that uses components of the QMS to analyze data and then direct changes that ensure continual improvement. Since the Sydney Model is cyclical, it can be used as often as required by an organization. The overall result is an enhanced proactive approach to meet QMS objectives and their related corporate business and/or financial objectives.
