Abstract

To be a good quality professional, a person should think like a giraffe. There are many things that giraffes do that help them see the world from a unique perspective that can be translated to a quality professional. Being so tall, they survey the landscape; as a good quality professional, know what’s going on in the immediate future and what is on the horizon. Giraffes have to learn things that are at ground level because drinking water often necessitates maneuvering their bodies to accomplish that task; seeing things at ground level for a quality professional is advantageous to find root causes to problems. Linking necessity to innovation, giraffes have learned that they can get most of their water from high up in the trees early in the morning or late in the evening; quality professional need to be willing to find creative solutions for the problems that arise. They understand their threats and react to it, just as a quality professional should. Giraffes focus on the common good by having the option to come and go from the heard. They function better as a group when they all feel welcome. As with business, a diverse and welcome group will be more likely to solve problems and get quality work done. Giraffes in the wild rarely stand still; in the business model a quality professional should pick a solution and move towards it. Finally, a giraffe tower rarely has a leader, but a leader does emerge as necessary. In business, working as a team and coming up with solutions should be part of the job for everyone.
