A manufacturer wanted to improve its contract purchase order acknowledgment process, which in turn would enhance customer satisfaction and increase the percentage of customers that renew contracts. The manufacturer used lean methods to map and measure the current process, identify possible delays and disruptions to the process, and brainstorm solutions to streamline and improve workflow. The company identified an electronic document management program to implement, which reduced the cycle time and process variation by more than half.
