Abstract

Quality and safety are interdependent variables—you can’t have one without the other. Each reinforces the other, and failure in one almost always signals weakness in the other. These disciplines are deeply intertwined parts of the same professional ethos: Do the right thing, the right way, every time. Laboratories that view risk through a quality lens and a safety lens experience fewer incidents, stronger morale and higher trust from clinicians and the public.
