Abstract
Performance reviews can be nerve wracking and frustrating experiences for some, especially if you receive a lower score than you anticipated or expected. One thing to understand is that perhaps your work was timely and well done, but your work was perceived by supervisors as less valuable. There are some ways to identify what management perceives as valuable work and steer closer to those perceptions to improve your next performance review. Performance perceptions can usually be boiled down to a mix of actual work done, the value of that work, the visibility of work and the style or personality of the employee being evaluated. Working on the right things, or things that management values as important, is key to creating positive perceptions. Letting others know what you're working on in a constructive way will ensure that your work gets the positive attention it deserves.
