Abstract
Integrating Bayesian principles with five whys addresses the limitations of traditional methods (namely, root cause analysis) for complex problems. This novel enhancement to five whys unfolds in distinct phases to ensure effective problem solving, avoiding overconfidence and confirmation bias while considering system complexity. The probabilistic five whys also identifies direct and indirect factors, validating assumptions at each step. The new enhancement offers a structured and data-driven approach to root cause analysis, leveraging probability assessments for improved accuracy.
