Abstract
The pace of technological change often exceeds our capacity to understand its human and environmental consequences, and to establish effective governance over its implementation. Anthropic, one of the world’s leading AI developers, warns that society could lose meaningful control over increasingly autonomous systems. Communities are protesting the rapid expansion of data centers that place possibly unsustainable demands on energy and water resources. At the same time, the World Economic Forum reports that the future of work will be shaped by two critical uncertainties: the pace of AI advancement, and the ability of workers and institutions to adapt.
