Abstract

As part of a run-up to this year’s ASQ Salary Survey in December, QP researchers asked quality professionals questions related to their organization’s culture of quality and how that influenced their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with their jobs. Key drivers of job satisfaction included engagement, pride, professional development, training and inclusion in idea generation. Predictors of job dissatisfaction included the lack of upward voices (that is, feeling comfortable talking to superiors about potential or actual quality problems) and the lack of an enterprisewide focus on quality. Organizations that prioritize open communication, invest in their employees’ development and cultivate a genuine commitment to quality will boost satisfaction.
