Abstract

Every organization is subject to audits or inspections—be it for its financial, health and safety, environmental or other areas of performance. “Audit fatigue,” however, is increasing, while the cost of auditing is rising. Fraud also remains an unfortunate reality. Can audit innovation help address these and other persistent problems? In this article, the authors outline seven innovations—some unsurprising and others that may be somewhat controversial—that can radically change the way we conduct audits.
