Abstract

Employees are increasingly loathe to work in the office, including after restrictions resulting from COVID-19 are relaxed. For workers who return to the office, for those who will continue to work from home, and for those who will follow a hybrid schedule, the sort, store, shine, standardize and self-organize (5S) method provides a means first to bring each part of the “workplace” into alignment with personal productivity goals and secondly to implement quality endeavors in line with the goals of the organization. This opportunity—to integrate 5S in every part of life—not only helps maintain a high standard for quality work in any environment, it also can be a boon to workers' personal lives and a way to keep busy in a semi-locked-down pandemic environment.
