Abstract

Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) can be performed in several different ways, and with different expectations for the outcome. However, there are two common issues people have with FMEA, and they are efficiency and effectiveness. Often significant resources are put into FMEA without knowing how effective it will be. The struggle with the effectiveness of FMEA stems from FMEA's focus on future problems, which are not always clear or verifiable.
