Abstract
Students at State University of New York at Fredonia used lean and Six Sigma (LSS) to identify recommendations for improving recycling efforts in dormitories at the rural university. The team found that the program would benefit from complementary solutions—specifically, adding and relocating recycling bins, creating engaging signage and establishing a campus recycling competition. These practical findings demonstrated that LSS can be an effective way to involve students in experiential learning and environmental planning.
