Freund-Marquardt Medal
The Freund-Marquardt Medal is presented to nominees who have applied quality principles to the development, implementation, and literature of management standards.
Nominations for the Freund-Marquardt Medal must be received by
October 1
Who is Eligible:
- Requirements: Individuals who have applied quality management principles to all types of management system standards, their supporting technical standards, and/or Performance Excellence Awards that: Excel in standards development, are well-known for working within a group to implement standards, are recognized by peers for their contributions to standards literature, and have shown outstanding leadership in positions within the standards community.
- ASQ membership not required, but preferred.
Nominators:
- May be individuals, divisions, or technical committees of ASQ or another standards-producing organization.
- Nomination may not exceed 10 single-spaced pages in length, use 12-point type, and must include: A cover letter, narrative, or vita containing the nominee’s major accomplishments: Applying quality management principles to the development, implementation, and leadership of management system standards, their supporting technical standards, major quality, environment, and/or performance excellence award standards, and contributing to literature of management system standards, their supporting technical standards, major quality, environment, and/or performance excellence award standards.
- The nomination should also include: Documentation to support the excellence demonstrated by the nominee in the development, implementation, and literature of management system standards, their supporting technical standards, major quality, environment, and/or performance excellence award standards, a proposed citation (≤40 words) for the presentation document, and minimum two references (apart from nominator) who: Have direct knowledge of the nominee and his/her work, confirm and elaborate one or more aspects of the nominee's work, and agree to be available by phone to members of the Freund-Marquardt Medal Committee.
Criteria to Win:
- Excels in standards development, domestically and/or internationally, balancing the interests of all stakeholders affected by the standard.
- Established a creative, cooperative environment within a group to implement standards valuable to society.
- Recognized as a voice that matters on issues relating to management system standards through published literature.
- Led a national delegation to an international technical committee, served as lead expert of a working group, or served as a member of a sector-specific standard working group apart from ASQ.
