Sherlock Holmes Zombie Hunter - A DMAIC Project for Yellow Belts and Green Belts
Not every root cause is easy to find. Real-world projects are filled with ambiguity, and success
depends on your ability to ask the right questions, analyze data, and act quickly.
Sherlock Holmes Zombie Hunter transforms Lean Six Sigma learning into an immersive,
decision-driven experience. Participants take on a simulated DMAIC project, investigating a zombie
outbreak in the fictitious village of Dragos. Through critical thinking and alternate decision pathways,
teams uncover the root cause, implement improvements, and develop control strategies—all while
balancing project expenses and cycle time.
Unlike traditional simulations, Sherlock challenges participants to think beyond checklists, mimicking
the complexity of real-world projects. Facilitators can tailor the experience, making it ideal for Yellow
Belts, Green Belts, and anyone ready to turn problem-solving into action.

Game Play and Facilitation
Participants are introduced to Dragos, a remote village facing an unusual surge in zombie attacks. Assuming investigative roles, teams navigate through the DMAIC phases, selecting from various activities to define the problem, measure its impact, analyze root causes, implement improvements, and establish control measures. Each decision influences the simulation's outcome, providing a realistic project environment that fosters analytical thinking and collaborative problem-solving.
Customization: : Facilitators can adjust the depth and focus of the simulation based on their audience’s needs or tailor it to reflect specific organizational challenges.
Technical Requirements: This is an online simulation, requiring only a computer with internet access.
Facilitation: Sherlock Holmes Zombie Hunter can be self-led using ASQ's facilitation materials or delivered with expert facilitation for additional guidance. Facilitators have access to dashboards that track participant progress, collect workflow metrics, and help to drive meaningful discussions.
Materials: Data Analysis software such as EngineRoom, Minitab, or Excel is needed to complete the simulation. A whiteboard (in-person) or software such as Mural (virtual) for mapping the process and working collaboratively through analysis and improvements is beneficial but not required
