Professional Experience
Karen worked work as a Medical Technologist in Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology and Special Chemistry for 35 years. Clinical Laboratory Medicine is highly regulated with process and data driven requirements. The last nine years, she served as section supervisor. Also during that time, Karen led six sigma projects to reduce throughput time for laboratory services and to optimize supply chain processes. Her biggest accomplishment was working with the V.P. Materials Management through a series of projects to design and implement Lean Supply Chain best practices.
Karen is an Adjunct professor for Villanova University’s On-Line Lean Six Sigma program teaching Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, Master Black Belt and Lean courses. She has developed and recorded course content for over 100 online lectures and has trained over 10,000 students for the University.
She also teaches ASQ’s Black Belt / Quality Engineering Statistics, Introduction to Quality Engineering and Certified Quality Engineering Exam Prep.
Currently, Karen is an Instructor for Transformation Technologies, Inc., Instructional Design Consultant for Fintek Consulting Group, Inc., Quality Consultant for Georgia Institute of Technology’s Enterprise Innovation, senior examiner for the Georgia Oglethorpe Award (state Baldrige Award), preliminary judge for ASQ International Team Excellence Award, a volunteer inspector for College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Workshops for Laboratory Professionals facilitator for American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Karen is also a contributing author in the best seller “Driving Operational Excellence”; her chapter dealing with a common sense approach to applying six sigma tools and tactics to healthcare processes.
