Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
Gain a working knowledge of the FMEA tool as it applies to product design. Referencing ISO 9001:2015 risk-based thinking, this course demonstrates the basics of creating a Design FMEA—a critical step in assessing risk to the development of a product and the business.
In this 1-day, hands-on course, you will learn how to address potential failures within a new or existing product design to reduce risk and improve quality.
During the morning, we will begin by discussing the fundamentals of FMEA including its definition, when to use it and when not to use it, types of FMEA, basic steps of the process, and how to assemble and facilitate an FMEA team. During the afternoon, you will work individually and in small groups to review an everyday product design scenario and analyze/document possible failure chains using ASQ’s FMEA template. The last 1 ½ hours of the class are dedicated to an open workshop where you can practice your new FMEA skills on any unworked/in-process DFMEA from your industry or company.
