Professional Experience

Dr. Mike Sherwin is an Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also the Principal Consultant and owner of Next Ridge Technologies, a company that provides custom supply chain, analytics, operations, and quality management solutions to small-and-medium-sized businesses.

Before joining the University of Pittsburgh in 2020, Mike spent nearly 20-years working in the biotechnology, aerospace, defense, energy, plastics, adhesives, electronics, tooling, and high purity metal powder industries. He has held positions in operational excellence, plant management, project management, quality management, regulatory affairs, and process engineering at the Director, Manager, and technical contributor levels of Fortune 500 and start-up organizations.

Mike is a published author, registered Professional Engineer (PA), and certified Six Sigma Black Belt (ASQ). He holds a BS in Materials Science and Engineering (Penn State University), M.S. in Industrial Engineering (Penn State University), MBA (Carnegie Mellon University), and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering (Mississippi State University).
