Professional Experience

Mike Sherwin is an Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where he teaches operations, process improvement, and supply chain management courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research focuses on risk management and utilizing data to solve real supply chain and operational problems facing supply chains in the industrial, energy, defense, and other critical sectors. He is also the Principal Consultant and owner of Next Ridge Technologies – a company that provides custom supply chain, analytics, operations, and quality management solutions to small- and medium-sized businesses. Prior to joining academia in 2020, Mike spent nearly 20 years working in the biotechnology, aerospace, defense, energy, plastics, adhesives, electronics, tooling, and high-purity metal powder industries. He has held operational excellence, plant management, project management, quality management, regulatory affairs, and process engineering positions at the Director, Manager, and technical contributor levels of Fortune 500 and start-up organizations. Mike is a published author, registered Professional Engineer (PA), and certified Six Sigma Black Belt (ASQ). He holds a BS in Materials Science and Engineering (Penn State University), MS in Industrial Engineering (Penn State University), MBA (Carnegie Mellon University), and Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering (Mississippi State University).
