The Writing Process

Proofread

Because all ASQ publications go through professional copyediting, your manuscript does not have to be perfect when you submit it. However, frequent or obvious errors not only make a negative impression on reviewers, but they also can interfere with communication of your main point. Proofread carefully so that those reviewing your manuscript can easily appreciate the quality of your ideas.

Proofreading tips:

  • Read every word slowly and out loud. Even pronouncing every punctuation mark and every space can help you spot errors you may have consistently overlooked.
  • Read key sections, or even the entire manuscript, backwards.
  • Print your manuscript and proofread a hardcopy.
  • Ask someone who has not previously reviewed your manuscript to help you proofread.
