Quality Pros Break Through the Healthcare Barrier

Abstract:Many quality professionals have been denied access to quality jobs in the healthcare sector because they lack medical backgrounds. One exception is Wisconsin's Marshfield Clinic, which has established a central department dedicated to helping the clinic embrace quality principles and techniques in administrative and noncritical activities. The quality process the clinic follows today uses metrics, lean, and Six Sigma principles modified for a healthcare setting. Savings from quality improvements systemwide have resulted in cost savings, improved morale, higher efficiency, and higher levels of customer and staff satisfaction.
