Teams Invited to Participate in Team
Excellence Award Competition
AQP’s Team Excellence Award Competition is the
only national recognition process of its kind in the
United States. Since the competition’s
inception in 1985, nearly 700 teams have participated
in the process, and the 2003-04 cycle has begun.
Teams from all organizational types are invited to
submit 25-minute videos that explain their projects
and processes. The video presentations are evaluated
using a criteria set that rates areas such as the
project’s purpose and selection process, its
effect on organizational goals, the process that was
used, and the results. The complete criteria are
available a http://www.aqp.org/news/guidelines_form.html
. Teams should submit their video entries by
December 12, 2003.
Preliminary evaluation will take place in January
and February in six sites across the country. All
participating teams will receive a feedback report
and score sheet, detailing how they were rated in
each criteria area. At that point, qualifying teams
will be invited to be part of the live competition,
held in conjunction with ASQ’S Annual Quality
Congress in Toronto, Canada, May 24-26, 2004.

AQP Training Courses Announced for
November
Process Control for Project
Teams Course #: 03271
CEUs: 2.25
Date: November 17-19, 2003
Location: Atlanta, GA
This training introduces and reinforces process
control tools to focus new teams and to energize
existing teams. This process can readily be applied
and utilized in any sector of your organization where
results must be identified, tracked, and implemented,
whether it is service, support, or production
operations. Actual work examples of the participants
are used throughout the training to ensure that you
can take away a clear, concise process to immediately
implement at your work site. Integrating the process
into actual work examples is essential to the skill
building you must have to go to the next level of
implementing this overall process control approach
for teams.
Lean Thinking Applied to Services and
Administrative Functions Course #:
03270
CEUs: 1.50
Date: November 18-19, 2003
Location: Atlanta, GA
Lean thinking is a philosophy and a powerful set
of tools designed to eliminate waste from processes.
It also focuses on what adds value in processes from
a customer’s perspective. While lean
thinking’s roots are in manufacturing, this
workshop covers how to apply it to services and
administrative functions. Lean thinking provides fast
and dramatic results. If you are looking for an
approach that builds on TQM and past improvement
techniques, lean thinking uses many old and familiar
tools in fresh and innovative ways, and is the next
generation of organizational and process
improvement.
