What advice can you offer to assist Software/Hardware Engineering Companies with the majority of their employees in the engineering discipline in identifying ways to effectively measure employee performance in relation to productivity? What types of metrics can we use; i.e. the amount of product output versus the amount of resources allocated to that product? What are some best practices that other companies i.e. HP or other in like industries are using in terms of metrics for productivity. Additionally, I would like your opinion on qualitative metrics for rewards and recognition. For example, instead of just measuring the number of patent award or short-term achievement awards given, what could we use to measure them in terms of impact to the business?
