Abstract

The challenge of analyzing causes for nonconformities and correcting or preventing them can be daunting, despite the range of sophisticated statistical tools available. The author has developed a simple and efficient tool to facilitate discovery and action, focusing on speed, efficiency, and realistic expectations. The process starts with brainstorming multiple possible causes for the problem, analysis, and proposed action plan for each, including responsible party and reasonable deadline. When 80% of critical causes are resolved, the problem can be considered resolved. As a small part in a complex problem, each stage is easily documented and managed.
