Abstract

This case study describes a novel use of a definitive screening design (DSD) run in a three-step process to create a special resin. In the first step, polymerization, three factors were varied. The two most important properties of the resin result from the polymerization step. Due to a useful feature of a DSD, the measured values of these properties (responses) could be analyzed using a full quadratic model. One additional response was measured after two subsequent finish steps in which another six factors were varied. As a result, this experiment has the flavor of response surface model (RSM) design for the most important responses and screening for the remaining response.
