Abstract

Identically with quality tenets of zero waste and zero harm, zero emissions is an imminently surmountable goal for any committed organization embracing the use of quality management tools for sustainability. Existing perhaps as an open secret, quality management as a strategy for achieving sustainability goals nevertheless needs selling and voluntarism on the part of quality professionals. According to an ASQ sustainability survey, much of the resistance to using quality management for sustainability results both from lack of buy-in and ignorance of underlying sustainability knowledge on the part of professionals. For success in achieving sustainability measures, sustainability must at least in part be named by organizations as an objective for their quality management teams.
