Abstract
ISO 9001 seems to have fallen out of favor in the worldwide marketplace, in that the number of organizations with ISO 9001 certifications has fallen in the past few years. ISO 9001 is a general worldwide specification last updated in 2015 for any quality management system and that emphasizes both customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance. While ISO might need to update the standard, the certifying organizations need to avoid treating the certification as a superficial rubber stamp. ISO is certainly slow in producing standards, and with technology innovation only accelerating, more effort by both ISO and organizations to keep up with updates and culture transformation is probably the solution.
