Abstract

Employees are used to being quiet and receiving instructions. It even seems like the right thing to do—ask the expert. Still, Japanese leaders were smart and, as instructed by W. Edwards Deming in the 1950s, realized that there is much more value in paying attention, asking questions and being observant than talking, teaching and demanding.
