Facing a New Reality
Abstract: With a reduced state budget and student enrollment dropping, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville used a strategic planning project to address higher education’s shifting student demographics. By heavily involving staff in brainstorming and problem solving, the project revamped the university’s operation methods, improved student retention, created a faculty-development center, and formed partnerships with European and Asian universities to improve international recruitment efforts.
