Attracting Students to STEM Careers
Abstract: The recently released NAEP study revealed that fewer than 3% of U.S. students have an advanced understanding of science. Another study showed they are falling further behind their international peers in their understanding of scientific principles. This bodes ill for the economic future of our country and leaders are concerned. To reverse this trend, teachers at every level must inspire students to want to pursue STEM careers. They can do this by making science and math fun, exciting and real, and by including something in every class to help every student get their motivational needs met positively.
