The Future of QualityDigital Transformation, The Fourth Industrial Revolution, and Industry 4.0 are all terms used to describe the changes that disruptive technologies are bringing to the workplace, the workforce, and the markets organizations serve. The topic is central to a growing conversation, but it is a conversation that seldom (if ever) looks at the topic through the lens of quality. The sessions in this area of focus examine the effects disruptive technologies are having on the quality function and on the quality profession as a whole. They offer a quality perspective on topics related (but not limited) to areas such as:
- Big data
- Data analytics
- Data management
- Artificial intelligence
- Smart manufacturing
- The internet of things
- Applying the agile framework in nonsoftware development settings
Today’s ever-changing landscape of disruption and transformation requires organizations to change and constantly challenge past practices. Sessions in this area of focus may cover topics such as:
- Resistance to change; approaches to shorten the change curve to move from resistance to improvement
- Conflict resolution
- Change management
- Sustaining results in environments of continual change
- Leading change in a multigenerational workforce
- Planning and implementing change
Building and Sustaining a Culture of Quality
The use of quality has long since expanded beyond the efforts of traditional quality professionals. This evolution has extended beyond the quality department, has been driven throughout entire businesses, and has spread much beyond its manufacturing roots. However, many remain faced with the challenge of developing work environments where quality is everybody’s job. The sessions in this area of focus address the struggle of how to build a culture in which the application of quality tools, techniques, and methods expands beyond special projects or departments and evolves into the standard way work gets done. They will focus on topics such as:
- Sustaining Results
- Foundational quality (the basics needed to build a strong foundation)
- Organizational process improvement – knocking down silos
- The Human Side of Quality
- Building Consensus/Getting Buy-in
- Behavior-based quality
The fundamentals of quality have not changed, but the environment and conditions in which they are applied have. The technological advances of today and tomorrow have (and will) provide great opportunity for the application of quality to be expanded. These advances, however, also provide the chance to reexamine how the fundamental elements of quality tools, techniques, and approaches can be applied to changing environments, a changing workforce, and emerging challenges. Sessions within this area are designed specifically for seasoned professionals who have a vast amount of experience in the quality profession. This area focuses on ADVANCED content designed to provide new, innovative, and unique insight and perspective to experienced practitioners and leaders. These sessions offer advanced content covering the more complex and intricate technical areas of the quality discipline. Areas of focus may include topics such as:
- Current and future trends
- merging practices
- Advanced technical/applied/statistical tools
Intermediate: The participant should have some degree of knowledge of the subject. The intent is to build on an individual’s knowledge of the subject to a point of greater understanding.
Advanced: Provides an in-depth and/or up-to-date treatment of a subject. A strong theoretical background and a working knowledge of a subject are expected of those that attend.
Workshop: Workshops will lead participants from an identified beginning point through a logical and clearly identified end point with the expansion of the related body of knowledge and include hands-on learning activities that demonstrate and reinforce the concepts presented.
Quality 4.0 Theater Sessions: Whether it be called Industry 4.0, Disruptive Technology or the Digital Revolution, the exponential growth of technology is rapidly changing the workforce, workplace and markets that organizations serve. These “TED-Style” talks explore the impact that artificial intelligence, robotics and other technological advances will have on organizations as well as the future of quality and the quality professional.
Welcome Session: Ensure that you take full advantage of EVERYTHING that The World Conference on Quality and Improvement has to offer by attending our Welcome Session. Join us as we walk you through all the session offerings, networking opportunities, special deals and local attractions available to you during the conference.
Satellite Sessions: This will mark our second year of offering this new session format. These sessions are a hybrid that mix elements of workshop and concurrent sessions with that of the traditional tours associated with other conferences. These sessions take the conference experience outside of the convention hall and have the added benefit of leveraging the location in a way that engages participants while still reinforcing technical concepts that align with the conference program.
Flip Sessions: Flip sessions are an interactive session format designed to provide you with a NEW method of Learning. These sessions are “flipped” and allow you to view the lecture portion of sessions online, before the conference. This approach allows participants to then do all the hands-on activities, exercises, and Q & A during the conference session time with the presenter.
“After 5” Sessions: These exciting and innovative sessions are less formal than concurrent sessions and cover numerous topics that may not relate directly to quality in the traditional sense. They include a social component which adds to the level of interaction between the facilitator and the participants, as well as the participants and their peers.
LIVE Case Studies: These unique sessions will take you on a journey through successful quality projects from around the world. Hear how other companies have made a significant impact on their organizations using proven quality methodologies, tools and techniques.
