The “How” of Lean and Six Sigma: Methods for Implementing Projects and Initiatives
In this focus area, we are looking for real-life examples from quality practitioners who have applied lean and Six Sigma tools, methodologies, and techniques. Specifically, we are looking for an examination of not only what was implemented, but also “how” it was implemented. Specific areas of focus could include (but are not limited to) topics such as:
- Case studies and real-world solutions that focus on challenges that were faced, mistakes that were made, and how each was handled and overcome
- Getting buy-in (selling lean and Six Sigma to the uninitiated)
- Matching the right tool to the right problem
The Application of Lean and Six Sigma in Nonmanufacturing Environments
The disciplines of lean, Six Sigma, and quality have generally (and traditionally) been applied most readily to manufacturing organizations and environments. However, the applications of these disciplines can and should be applied well beyond these traditional environments. These sessions will examine how to apply these disciplines in industries and markets that include (but are not limited to):
- Service settings
- Financial settings
- Government settings
- Healthcare settings
- Administrative settings

Expert Panelist on Lean and Six Sigma in the Digital Age
The exponential growth of disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things and robotics is drastically changing the workforce, the workplace and the markets that organizations serve. This shift will inevitably have an impact on quality professionals, the role quality plays in organizations and the view of quality by the leadership within them. Join this panel of experts as they explore the challenges and opportunities that exist within this dynamic and the opportunities quality professionals have to lead their organizations through the digital transformations they will inevitably have to go through.
Lean and Six Sigma in the Digital Age
Organizations are transforming at an exponential rate! This transformation is being driven by changes to the workforce, the workplace, and the markets organizations serve. There is both challenge and opportunity that exist within this extreme rate of change, and this extends to the role quality practitioners can play within all organizations. The organizational opportunities offered through disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and the internet of things (IoT) are coupled with the challenges of cybersecurity, big data analytics, block chain, data management, and digital transformation.
Within this dynamic is an opportunity for quality professionals to evolve from members who support organizations to individuals who can lead the transformation organizations must implement. Successful organizations of the future must expand the scope of quality and IT functions so both can work together to lead the digital transformation that all organizations must achieve.
ASQ is looking for leading lean and Six Sigma practitioners who are able to share their best practices, tested solutions, and proven results that address these challenges and demonstrate their success within an ever-changing digital landscape. This search specifically seeks presentations that can integrate the conference theme with one or more of the focus areas outlined below. We invite you to share your successes and proven techniques to an audience representing an array of countries, backgrounds, and industries.
