Comments on “A Tutorial on Probabilistic Risk Assessment for Net Package Contents” – Mini Paper Appearing in Spring 1998 Newsletter

Abstract: This paper expands on the findings in Dennis King’s mini-paper on Probabilistic Risk Assessment in the Fall 1997 ASQ Statistics Division Newsletter. In particular this paper utilizes a filling process example to illustrate, first, what happens to the risk if the fill accuracy standard deviation of the process changes; and secondly, that the capital cost to achieve lower standard deviation may be less than the material cost to “overfill”, on average, in order to avoid underweight penalties.
