Smooth Work Flow Lowers Complexity and Raises Your Output Mini Paper Taken from the Fall 1996 Newsletter
Abstract: Operations plagued with high inventory, low productivity, late shipments, or missed project deadlines and experiencing high variability in the length of time it takes to complete an order or finish a project may be suffering from poor organization of resources needed to do the job. Eli Goldratt introduced the idea of constraint management as a way to maximize throughput and minimize costs and inventories given existing variation in the production system. This paper presents an introduction to constraint management for improving work flow and reducing complexity and shows how two different manufacturing organizations have implemented them.
