ISO 26000: Social Responsibility Guidance Standard

ISO 26000 encourages voluntary commitment to social responsibility (SR). The SR guidance standard will lead to common guidance on the concepts, definitions, and methods of evaluation.

Society requires both public and private organizations to behave in a socially responsible way. The stakeholder groups in the WG SR developing ISO 26000 share that requirement, groups including industry, government, labor, consumers, nongovernmental organizations, and others; in addition to a geographic and gender-based balance.

The SR guidance standard will be published in 2010 as ISO 26000 and be voluntary to use. It will not include requirements and will thus not be a certification standard.
