Combining an FMEA with a value stream map (VSM) can help organizations consider potential failure modes for their entire business. This approach is known as a business-level failure mode and effects analysis and allows improvement teams to quickly target specific process steps and causes of potential failures. This twist on the traditional FMEA also can validate the observations and historical perspectives experienced while creating a VSM.
