About Section 0308

The Thames Valley Section of ASQ was founded in late 1969. It began operations as a sub-section of the neighboring New Haven Section, and held its first Quality Conference, jointly with ASNT, on May 20-22, 1970 at the Connecticut Yankee Inn, Niantic, CT. ASQ granted a charter for the Thames Valley Section (308) in May 1971. It was presented formally to the Section at the 26th Northeast Quality Control Conference (NEQCC) in October 1971.

Today, the Section has about 126 members. As of this publishing we have over 71 ASQ Senior members. We also have the honor of having one ASQ Fellow member. The number of Section Members certified within various ASQ specialties is approaching the 44% mark.

Over the years, a series of dedicated and talented professionals have led the Section. Invariably, they sought to improve the quality profession by serving the membership. Since the start of the ASQ Section Management Program (SMP) in 1987, the Section has achieved TOP ACHIEVER STATUS - 19 times. For its sustained improvement as a unit, the Section has also received six BOB SELIG AWARDS from NEQC. This award was presented to the most improved small section (under 175 members) in the region.
