Flexible and interchangeable

A new type of design for force and material testing software programs has been introduced.

The L.S. Starrett Co. recently introduced a flexible, interchangeable selection architecture that increases application versatility, providing users a wider range of solution options, from basic to advanced, for their specific force and material testing needs.

Starrett L2, S2, L2 Plus and L3 software are now compatible and interchangeable with all Starrett Frame/Stands Series (FMM, FMS, FMD, MMS and MMD). In addition, Starrett L1 and S1 software are compatible with FMM Series Frames.

Starrett FMM Frame Testers are compact and ideal for high volume, lean manufacturing production. Starrett FMS and MMS Frames accurately determine simple load, distance and break, or more complex material testing applications such as Young’s Modulus, tensile strength, stress or strain. Starrett FMD and MMD Series Test Frames are suitable for simple force and distance measurements, as well as more complex material testing applications.

PHOTODETECTORS

Reliable broadband detection

Two new broadband hybrid Silicon-InGaAs photodetectors have been released to the marketplace.

Marktech Optoelectronics, which manufacturers standard and custom optoelectronics components and assemblies, recently developed Models MT03-041 (TO-5) and MT03-047 (SMD). The units provide versatile, accurate and reliable broadband detection over spectral ranges from UV-to-VIS-to-SWIR, with 250 nm (UV) to 1750 nm (SWIR) enhanced sensitivity.

This wide dynamic range includes 365 nm blue-green enhanced Silicon-based and 1,300 nm InGaAs-based detection, respectively; ultra-low-noise measurement performance; and high shunt resistance. The detectors are seamlessly integrated within a single, compact thru-hole or SMD package.

ACCELEROMETER

Withstands thermal demands

New general-purpose analog surface-mount accelerometers that are rugged and can withstand extreme temperature swings are now available.

Silicon Design Inc.’s Model 1522 series have been designed for eight unique models and standard ranges from ±2 g to ±400 g. The accelerometers provide vibration and acceleration measurements within more thermally demanding zero-to- medium frequency applications, such as those characterized by large or rapid temperature fluctuations. The accelerometers also provide superior bias and scale factor performance over an expanded operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C, further responding to AC and DC acceleration.

The units are 100% in-house tested, programmed, calibrated and verified within a climate chamber environment to ensure their continued measurement accuracy and reliability, particularly under thermally volatile conditions.

CALIBRATION

Advancing accelerometer systems

MB Dynamics is touting the launch of its new “4-in-1” multi device-under-test (DUT) automated accelerometer calibration system.

The “4-in-1” multi-DUT automated accelerometer calibration system (MDAC) facilitates simultaneous and accurate calibrations of up to four piezoelectric (charge or PE), IEPE (low-impedance voltage mode), or variable capacitive (VC) accelerometers, of the same model and type, each weighing up to 20 grams and over frequencies from 1 Hz to 4,000 Hz.

In addition, the “4-in-1” MDAC can perform automated single-DUT calibrations of PE, IEPE, velocity, piezoresistive and VC accelerometers, as well as vibration sensors and transducers, over frequencies from 1 Hz to 10 kHz, using MB Dynamics’ own CAL50 calibration vibration exciter.

FUSES

Protecting batteries, interrupting short circuits

There is a new series of midget fuses that are ideal for protecting batteries in electric vehicles.

The AEO 10.3x38 mm series, produced by Schurter, can interrupt short circuits up to 20kA at 1,000/800 VDC, with a current rating range of 10-50 A.

The new AEO series fuse meets reliability specifications according to AEC-Q200 and is UL approved. Mounting options include compatibility with Schurter’s heavy duty CSO fuse clip designed for voltages up to 1,500 VDC, and currents up to 32 A. Other options include inline axial terminals for wire connections, through-hole PCB mounting or screw mount PCB.
