Down With Silos

Abstract:An academic healthcare organization is a complex association of facilities and programs which focus on patient care, healthcare provider training, and medical research. Each of these points of focus have different goals and strategies. As a result, a "silo" perspective in which each component of the healthcare system concentrates only on their mission is common. Unfortunately, this silo mindset makes it difficult for the academic healthcare organization to function as an integrated system.
